These are worked out by taking publicly available information and comparing what its worth via online price checking sites to the amount of points needed for that purchase. This gives a figure for how much value your spend is worth in rewards. This value is dependent on you using that reward scheme and redeeming the maximum value.

Rewards are worked out by taking a basket of three products available from the specific reward schemes partners. These are then compared to the same product if you bought it cash. Air miles are worked out from a basic Cape Town to Johannesburg return fare and then compared by the amount of points you would need to purchase the same flight. Discounts are an averaged percentage of discounts available on those products that offer them. This discount can, in general, only be taken from the partner companies of that specific discount scheme.
